Banana Muffins with Chocolate Chunks

I love the larger chunks of chocolate in these muffins!  There is something special about the combination of the smaller chips and the larger chunks.  Could it be that there is just MORE chocolate?  Just my style. :)  This recipe doubles easily --so that's what I did!

Banana Muffins with Chocolate Chunks
adapted from March 1999 Bon Apetit recipe

1 ½ cups all purpose flour
2/3 cup dark brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 large)
1 large egg
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
¼ cup milk
¼ cup semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup semisweet chocolate chunks

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line twelve 1/3-cup muffin cups with baking liners. Using a fork or pastry blender, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in large bowl. Mix mashed bananas, egg, melted butter and milk in medium bowl. Make a small well in the middle of the dry ingredients. Fold banana mixture into dry ingredients just until blended (do not over mix). Fold in chocolate chips and chunks.

Divide batter among prepared muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full. Bake muffins until tops are golden and tester inserted into center comes out with some melted chocolate attached but no crumbs, about 30 to 35 minutes. Transfer muffins to rack to cool.
