This takes me right back to Germany and also reminds me of my mother's Apple "Lightning" Cake. So incredibly easy and wonderfully delicious! For an extra treat I served this with salted caramel gelato. A little whipped cream would certainly be a perfect partner but it is also delicious without any adornment at all.
